Rental terms and conditions

This is a plain-language summary of the rental agreement you sign at handover, based on the policies of Nomad Tours LLC (Oman Car Hire), which operates Car Rental Salalah. Where the two differ, the signed agreement applies.

Eligibility and documents

• The driver must be at least 23 years old and hold a full driving licence.
• Non-residents of Oman must carry an International Driving Permit with their home licence. Oman residents use their Omani licence; GCC licences are accepted as follows: GCC licences are accepted for GCC residents.
• Bring your passport or national ID and a payment card in the driver's name for the deposit.
• Only drivers named on the agreement may drive. Additional drivers: additional drivers must be registered with us and meet the same requirements.

Rental period, minimum days, extensions

Rentals are priced per calendar day from the handover time. The minimum rental is 4 days at every pickup point in every season; shorter stays are charged as 4 days. A late return beyond the grace period on the agreement is charged as an extra day.

Extensions are requested by phone at least 24 hours before the return time. We confirm the car is free and extend the agreement at the rate in force for the new dates.

Rates, VAT 5 %, deposit

Prices are in Omani rial. Your quote lists the daily rate, the insurance tier, add-ons and any positioning, one-way, hotel-delivery or out-of-hours fees, with VAT at 5% as a separate line.

Booking follows a request, confirmation and hold model: you request without a card; once we confirm the car we ask for a card and place a hold to secure the booking. The balance is settled at pick-up unless you prefer to pay online after confirmation. At handover a security deposit of OMR 100 is held on a card in the driver's name. It is released after the car is returned and checked, and may stay visible on your statement for up to 30 days depending on your bank. Damage within the excess, fines, missing fuel and unpaid fees are deducted before release.

Insurance tiers and excess

• Basic: included; excess OMR 150 per incident.
• Extended: OMR 10 per day; excess OMR 100 per incident.
• Adventurer: OMR 15 per day; excess OMR 0.

The excess is the most you pay towards damage to the rental car in one incident, provided you have kept to the agreement. Cover is void, and the driver bears the full cost, for off-road driving in a car that is not 4WD, driving outside Oman other than on a UAE-start booking, unnamed or unlicensed drivers, driving under the influence, and breaches of Omani law. Tyres, glass, underbody and interior are treated as stated on the agreement: tyres, glass and the underbody are covered only on the Adventurer tier.

Mileage

Each rental day includes standard kilometres, pooled across the rental. Each extra kilometre is charged at OMR 0.100. You may add 50 km per day for OMR 0.500 or 100 km per day for OMR 1.000 at the request step.

Fuel, tolls, fines, traffic violations

The car is handed over with a recorded fuel level and must be returned at the same level; missing fuel is charged at the rate on the agreement plus a refuelling charge. Traffic fines, speed-camera penalties, parking charges and tolls during the rental are the driver's responsibility, including fines notified to us after return, which are deducted from the deposit or invoiced with the administration fee stated on the agreement.

Permitted use

The car may be driven anywhere in Oman on public roads. Off-road driving is permitted only in cars we classify as 4WD, never in a two-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive car without low range. Driving outside Oman is permitted only on a UAE-start booking, where the one-off UAE cross-border pack of OMR 30 provides the border documents and cross-border insurance; taking a Salalah- or Muscat-start car across any border is a breach.

One-way, relocation and out-of-hours fees

• Muscat to Salalah, driven by you: no relocation fee.
• Salalah to Muscat, driven by you: one-way fee of OMR 125.
• Salalah pickup of a car not already in Salalah: OMR 50 per truck leg plus two days of that car's daily rate; during khareef (15 June to 15 September) a flat OMR 35 per leg. Outside khareef, 72 hours' notice. No positioning fee applies to a car already in Salalah.
• UAE start (Dubai Al Quoz or Abu Dhabi): staff drive-out of OMR 90 plus one day's rate, the OMR 30 cross-border pack, 72 hours' notice. UAE returns are quoted separately.
• Hotel delivery in Salalah: quoted on request each way.
• Out-of-hours handover: OMR 50 per vehicle outside 08:00 to 18:00.
• Airport drop: OMR 5 where listed on the quote.

Cancellation

Cancellations 48 hours or more before the pickup time receive a full refund of any amount charged, and any hold is released. Cancellations within 48 hours of pickup, and failure to collect the car, incur a fee of one rental day or 25% of the booking total, whichever is greater. Requests we have not yet confirmed can be withdrawn at no cost.

Vehicle substitution

If the confirmed car becomes unavailable through damage, breakdown or a late return by a previous customer, we may substitute a similar model of the same or higher class at no extra cost.

Breakdown and accidents

Roadside assistance is available 24 hours a day across Oman on every rental; the number is on your agreement. In an accident, make everyone safe, call the Royal Oman Police, obtain a police report, photograph the scene and call us. Recovery from off-tarmac locations is subject to recovery within 50 km of a paved road with Adventurer cover. A car that becomes undriveable through a mechanical fault not caused by the driver is replaced or the unused days refunded.
